What are eyelash extensions?
Lash extensions are synthetic strands made to replicate a natural eyelash. There are three different types of lash extensions: synthetic, silk and mink. Sizes range from 6mm to 17mm, but at Penny Lash, the biggest size we apply is 14mm. Lashes are applied one at a time using a specially formulated adhesive that won’t damage the natural lash. When applied correctly, lash extensions lengthen and thicken your natural eyelashes.
Can I swim, shower, exercise, snowboard, play rugby while wearing eyelash extensions?
Yes! The adhesive used to attached your eyelash extensions is waterproof, which allows you to stay in the game. Shower, swim, tackle girls at your next rugby match, snowboard, you can do it all while wearing eyelash extensions. The adhesive will begin to breakdown over time, so if swimming in chlorine it’s advised to wear goggles. Otherwise, go for that swim, sit in the sauna. Live your life with eyelash extensions.
How do I take care of my new eyelash extensions?
Ensure you don’t get lash extension wet for 24 hours after application, after that they will be waterproof. Don’t use waterproof mascara or oil-based products to protect the adhesive from breaking down. Avoid excessively rubbing your eyes and don’t pull at your lashes. Be sure to use a water-based makeup remover. If you’re a side sleeper, try to avoid rubbing your eyes too aggressively on your pillow while sleeping.
How long will a set of eyelash extensions last?
Eyelash extensions last the length of your natural eyelash growth cycle when applied properly by a professional. Depending on your day-to-day activities, refills are only required every 2-4 weeks. Refills are required to fill in any lashes that have fallen out due to your natural growth cycle. Refill appointment generally last about an hour depending on the amount of eyelash loss.
How soon can I wash my face after the extensions are applied?
Avoid washing the eye area for at least 24 hours after eyelash extension application. This allows the waterproof bonding agent to set and then you’re good to go!
If I wear eyelash extensions will I lose my natural lashes?
This is a common misconception when it comes to eyelash extensions. Natural eyelash shed overtime as part of the natural growth cycle. Sometimes you may see an eyelash extension fall out with a natural lash attached. This is normal and part of the natural growth cycle. When lash extensions are applied properly, you won’t see any damage to your natural lashes.
Can I apply mascara to eyelash extensions?
One of the greatest benefits of wearing eyelash extensions is that mascara isn’t required. Lash extensions give the illusion of wearing mascara. If you decided to apply mascara, use only a water-based product. Don’t use oil-based or waterproof mascara, as they can dissolve the bonding agent used in the adhesive. Use care when removing mascara from the extensions and only use water-based makeup remover.
How long will it take to apply eyelasj extensions and how is it done?
When getting a full set of eyelash extensions applied initially, the process takes roughly 90-120 minutes. Refills typically take 45-60 minutes depending on how many lashes you lost between appointments. Lashes are applied while you lay comfortably on a bed with your eyes closed. Your lower lashes are covered and one of the talented Penny Lash artists applies the lashes one at a time to your upper lashes.
